NC waits as most of 117,000 absentee ballots won't be counted until Nov. 12

The wait continues for voters across North Carolina as results for the state and the nation as a whole remain unknown in the presidential race.

Online interactive graphic mapsacross national and local media outlets continue to show North Carolina frozen at about 94% of its total votes counted, which is not enough to call the presidential race for the state.

That number — of about 5.5 million total votes cast and counted thus far — will not change until individual county boards of elections hold their absentee ballot meetings, N.C. State Board of Elections Executive Director Karen Brinson Bell said during a news conference Wednesday afternoon, Nov. 4.

Bell and Damon Circosta, NCSBOE chair, gave a live update at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday regarding Election Day and the post-election processes.

Most of those county meetings are scheduled for Nov. 12, with very few exceptions across the state, Bell said.
